In Germany “Krapfen”, or donuts, are particularly often available at carnival time. Since I live vegan I have not eaten them, because they are often made with butter, eggs and milk.Today I had the idea to make a vegan version of these unhealthy junk foods. I hope my vegan “Krapfen” alternative can convince you. Attention: They aren´t healthy but very delicious!
Ingredients
1 cube of yeast
25 g vegetable margarine
200 g strawberry jam
300 g flour
0.5 l oil
1 pinch of salt
250 ml soy milk
Preparation vegan donuts:
Heat the margarine with the soy milk in a saucepan. Then add the flour, yeast and salt quantities and process to a smooth dough. Place the dough in a closed bowl in a warm water bath, so that the yeast can rise. If the lid lifts, after about 30 minutes, knead the dough again and let it rest again. Divide the dough into small balls, flatten they slightly, cover and leave to rest again. Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Fry the “Krapfen” golden brown on both sides. Remove the fritters and drain. Fill jam into a piping bag and give it into the little donuts. Since I have no piping bag I added the jam subsequently to the donuts. They can also be eaten without jam and rolled in sugar only.
I hope you enjoy baking and Bon appetit!
